Purpose: To encourage the understanding, development and use of underutilized native plants
History: Established in 2017 in cooperation with the family of Montine McDaniel Freeman utilizing surplus funds from the Montine M. Freeman Medal account
Funds one or more scholarships annually at a minimum of $3000 to support study at an accredited college, university, or major botanic garden or arboretum. Projects may include, but are not restricted to, plant propagation, and the acquisition of skills for working with native plant collections, including techniques for incorporating them in managed landscapes. Photographic and written documentation of studies and research projects may be considered.
