International Forestry; The Exploration of People and Societies Living In & Around Important Forest Resources
The Institute of Current World Affairs is searching for candidates for its Forest and Society Fellowship program, a two-year, self-designed fellowship overseas. The Fellowship is aimed at forestry professionals who would like to explore the people and societies living in and around important forest resources outside of the United States. The purpose of this fellowship is to deepen our understanding of the factors that lead to destruction, preservation and sustainable uses of these globally important natural resources. We are also interested in solutions-oriented approaches that look at different policies and practices aimed at protecting forests. Full financial support for 2 years

* Necessary language proficiency according to proposed country of research i.e. Russian if going to Russia etc.
* Must have excellent written and spoken English language skills
* Must have completed the current phase of their formal education
* Must be below 36 years old
* Must show strong and credible ties to US society. Must hold the promise of enriching public life in the US by enhancing the understanding of foreign countries, culture, and trends
* Fellowships are not aimed at covering news events
* Fellowships are not scholarships. We do not support degree programs at universities, the writing of books, or research projects aimed at answering specific questions in a particular academic discipline
* Selected Fellows are expected to depart for their fellowship within six months of their selection
