Summary: 
This fellowship program is designed to provide an independent research opportunity to recently graduated PhDs who want to pursue interests that align with the NOAA Climate Program Office. The overarching purpose of the program is to help create and train the next generation of leading researchers needed for climate studies. The program focuses on observing, understanding, modeling, and predicting climate variability and change on seasonal and longer time scales. 
 
Appointed fellows are UCAR employees and receive a fixed annual salary plus UCAR’s employment benefites.

Description: 
  • This prestigious NOAA-sponsored program appoints fellows that are hosted by a mentoring scientist at a U.S. university or research institution to work in an area of mutual interest.
  • The objective of the program is to help create the next generation of leaders in climate research. It endeavors to attract recent PhDs in sciences that address studies with relevance to the NOAA climate research goals.
  • Desired research areas focus on observing, understanding, modeling, and predicting climate variability and change on seasonal and longer time scales. This includes the documentation and analysis of past, current, or possible future climate variability and change as well as the study of the underlying physical, chemical, and biological processes.
  • Preference is given to new graduates who are seeking their first fellowship and who have held a PhD for no more than three years.

Applicants must have a PhD degree in an area related to climate change research and have completed defense of the degree before starting the fellowship. Preference is given to new graduates who are seeking their first fellowship and who have held a PhD for no more than three years. We encourage applications from women and minorities and U.S. citizenship is not a requirement.
