$20,000 per year for 2 years to a postmaster’s degree student (doctoral or postdoctoral researchers preferred) to conduct research in forest and non-timber tropical rain forest in Latin America.
Forestry
The Rainforest Alliance is most interested in research that could potentially be applied to the ongoing work of our TREES program which trains communities and small- and medium-sized enterprises to harvest and manufacture forest and non-timber forest products in a sustainable manner, and market these goods to responsible businesses and consumers around the world.
Toward that end, the geographic scope of the Kleinhans Fellowship is restricted to Latin America, with a preference for locations where Rainforest Alliance community forestry projects are already underway.
The fellowship provides a grant of $20,000 (US) per year for two years. Please note that the fellowship will not subsidize academic tuition or fees, nor will it cover the cost of purchasing transport vehicles or equipment that is unnecessary or unreasonable.
Research topics:
- Markets for lesser-known species and non-timber forest products (NTFPs)
- Biodiversity management practices
- Social organization and governance
- Multi-community enterprises
